Dad's 70th birthday party

My dad and aunt celebrated their 70th birthday party this year. My sister and I planned a surprise party/campout for my dad and my sister's house. Here is Granddaddy opening presents from the crew of grandkids.

The campground in my sister's backyard was wonderful.

The girls REALLY wanted to campout. Ugh! They can't even sleep well in their own beds. How would camping outside in a tent turnout? Did Phil stay home knowing how this would turn out? I didn't want to be the meany mommy who said no, sooo....
Here they are snuggling in for a cozy night in the tent with their adventurous mommy.

Oh, well, we did survive and they were SO proud of themselves. Here we are waking up in the morning.

Fighting off the bears outside the tent...

Now they had to try the zip line.

The birthday boy shows off his youthfulness on the zip line. Let me just take this moment to vent that the last time my dad made a zip line for us kids was about 25 years ago and he had me try it first to see if it worked. IT DIDN'T and I ended up in the dirt in a pile of wood and ants. I was not falling for that one again so this time I made sure someone else tried it before my kids did. :)

Frog catching.

Time with cousins.

Mammaw Mamie reads a bedtime story to all the grandkids before we went to sleep the next night (in the house!).

Happy Birthday to Kate and Lily - how did you get to be 5 year old young ladies so quickly??? Tell your old Daddy that we said Happy Birthday to him too a day early. We will try to call you one night this week when we are all home at the same time and it is not too late!! We love you and are so proud of both of you!

Hugs and Kisses,

Megan, Michael, Uncle Lee, and Aunt Carol
